Episode Notes

On this episode we debut a new segment, designed to recommend specific paths and actions to become truly remarkable. Leveraging material from Steve's best-selling book, consulting work, and keynote speaking, we go deep on a concept first popularized by Nike CEO Mark Parker. At its core, "editing to amplify" means giving customers fewer, more powerfully distinctive options. What was once largely applied to merchandising strategy can be extended more broadly. In today's world where it's increasingly harder to rise above the rest, a less is more strategy may no longer be a nice to have.

But first we start with our fast-paced unpacking of the week in retail news, including all things macro-economic and yet another anemic US monthly sales report. We move on to explore the IPO fever that's washing over Wall St. as Instacart, Klaviyo, and Birkenstock go pubic. We then return to the Wobbly Unicorn Corner and Rent the Runway's "challenging quarter" before shifting to more positive news from MyTheresa, which is the rare breed of online-only players that actually makes money. We conclude giving thumbs up to Kendra Scott's new partnership with Target.
